Request a special collection

Request a special collection to remove large bulky household waste items such as beds, fridges and washing machines.

This service is for household items only.

What we’ll collect

  • Fridge / freezer – not American style fridge freezers with a water dispenser
  • Washing machine
  • Dishwasher
  • Microwave
  • Oven
  • Television
  • Computer / monitor
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Sideboard / dresser
  • Coffee table
  • Dressing table / chest of drawers
  • Dining table including up to 6 chairs
  • Beds, mattresses, headboards (classed as individual items)
  • Sofa / armchair

What we cannot collect

  • Garden waste, soil and cut down trees
  • Building waste
  • Carpet / underlay
  • Worktops
  • Fixtures or fittings
  • Hazardous waste or chemical waste, paint or any other liquid substances
  • Pianos
  • American style fridge freezers with a water dispenser and larger than 182.4cm (H) x 54cm (W) x 57.5cm (D)
  • Glass, or items with glass in them such as tables etc
  • Fence panels, sheds or greenhouses

On special collection day

We will only collect items you have listed for collection that the collection crew can access. We do not collect from garages or covered storage. All items must be outside, clearly visible and accessible.

Make sure that:

  • You only put out items you have booked for collection
  • You put the items at the front of your property by 6.30am on your collection day
  • You do not obstruct the pavement or street

If you live in a flat please leave your items either:

  • Outside the communal entrance door
  • In the communal bin area
  • In your own parking space in a communal car park

If you want to receive updates on your booking, or need to amend or cancel your booking, sign up for an account before completing the form.

Book a special collection

By booking a special collection you are agreeing to the terms and conditions listed below:

  • Items must be placed on your boundary, in the open and clearly visible by 6.30am for a morning collection
  • We do not collect from garages or any covered storage
  • Access and exit to a collection point must be able to fit a vehicle that is 3.8 metres high and 2.8 metres wide
  • You can only book up to 10 items for your address at any one time or within 6 months
  • We may take photos of the front or collection point which may include your property for our records. Consent will be implied when you complete the online application form, if you refuse a photo the collection will not be taken
  • Items must not require more than 2 people to carry
  • You must remove all food from fridges and freezers
  • You must remove any sharp objects from your appliances or furniture
  • The special collection service is not to be used for house, garage or property refurbishments or clearances. You will need to use firms or charities who supply this service

Failure to meet these terms and conditions may result in the collection not being completed and a new collection will need to be booked and paid for.

Use a commercial waste collector

If we cannot collect your bulky items on your preferred date and you decide to use a private waste collection business please remember to protect yourself and make sure they have a waste carrier licence.

Check the Environmental Agency register to see if they are allowed to transport, buy, sell, or dispose of waste, or to arrange for someone else to do so:

Recycling unwanted furniture

Some charities and organisations upcycle and rehome unwanted furniture.
