Theydon Bois Golf Club played host to the Epping Forest District Council`s Charity Business Golf Day on Monday 24 September 2007. Teams from local businesses competed in the annual fund raising event sponsored by Higgins Group PLC in Loughton. The event, held by the Chairman of Epping Forest District Council, Councillor Caroline Pond, raised over £4,400 for the Chairman`s charity.
For her year in office, Councillor Pond is raising money for The League of Friends of St Margaret’s Hospital. The League of Friends is a voluntary organisation which supports the work of the hospital. It is able to provide much needed equipment and comforts for the benefit of patients and staff through the income raised by the work of volunteers.
Councillor Pond said: It says much for the enterprise and social responsibility of our local businesses that we continue to get such an excellent response to this event. To date, over £40,000 has been raised over the 11 years that the event has been running for local good causes, and I am especially appreciative of the efforts today for my charity, the Friends of St Margaret’s Hospital. Everyone has been most generous.”
The overall winner of the individual competition was Mike Hutchins of Epping based surveyors and consultants Stace, who also won the team event.
Mrs Pond continued: The Business Golf Day continues to provide a valuable contribution to the Chairman`s Charity each year, and I am delighted that so many local businesses have been able to support the Chairman`s Charity again this year
Councillor Pond added her congratulations and thanks to all the teams, she said: Mike Hutchins and the team from Stace are worthy winners. Some of the play was excellent. It was a great day all round and I would like to thank all the golfers of every standard who made it so enjoyable.
