Help us reduce the number of clear plastic sacks used for recycling

Last year £360,000 was spent on purchasing and delivering the plastic sacks we use to collect your dry recycling.

We’re delighted residents are recycling so much, and look forward to seeing recycling increase even more across the district, but we need to ensure that the recycling sacks provided are being used efficiently, minimising both cost and waste.

You can help by doing the following:

• Sacks can be picked up free from across the Epping Forest district. If you aren’t able to get any recycling sacks, rubbish can be placed in any transparent bag or cardboard box.
• Please only take 1 roll per visit
• Fill your clear sack with accepted loose household recycling. Your sacks will not be taken if they contain any non-recyclable materials
• Use all the space within the sacks by flatting boxes, squashing tins, cans and plastic bottles. Take the lid off plastic bottles to make sure they stayed squished
• Sacks are only to be used for your recycling collection and not any other purpose

Recycling blue bin trial

We are currently running a trial for a blue-lidded bin for recycling. The bin is to replace the use of recycling sacks and your blue glass box. All recycling can be placed into the bin separately including glass bottles and jars.

We will issue you with a standard 240 litre wheeled bin which is larger than your standard food and garden or refuse bin. If you find after using the bin you need extra capacity or would like a smaller bin please let us know.

There is currently no charge for your first recycling blue bin or replacements, however charging for replacement bins for recycling may be subject to change in the future.
