We have over 100,000 objects reflecting human life in the district.
Objects range from prehistoric stone tools to 20th century computer games, and include costume, photographs, art, toys and domestic, industrial, and agricultural equipment. We also have a small ethnographic collection, oral history recordings and the Waltham Abbey Police Historical collection.
We can provide information on the collection and the history of the district but are not able to carry out detailed research for enquirers. Collection and reference material can be made available for research by appointment.
If there is something you would like to research, please get in touch to find out if we have the resources you need.
Copies of photographs from our collection are available for purchase.
We collect objects that have a connection with the Epping Forest district. We are always interested in hearing about any possible donations, but regret that we may not accept donations if they:
- duplicate what we already have
- do not have a clear local link
We may be able to give advice on alternative places of deposit.
We can offer opinions on objects by appointment, but regret we are unable to give valuations on objects.
We are working on making our collections available online.
The Waltham Abbey Police Historical Collection
It began its life as a collection housed in the local police station, developed and curated part time by serving officers. The Waltham Abbey Police Historical Collection is now a valued resource within the wider collections of Epping Forest District Museum.
